Newsletter (01) Term 2

Dear Parents,

We hope you all enjoyed the easter holiday season.

Dear Parents,

We hope you all enjoyed the easter holiday season.

On the back of a very successful term 1, we are looking forward to another exciting term of football with the kick off to term 2 from April 27th to Saturday July 1st.

During this term, we will continue our individual and collective football development work via our weekly training, Saturday elite skills, winter competition, school holiday clinics and football development tournaments.
The introduction to football, discovery and nurturing experience with Mini Mongo will also continue with more fun development games for the kids.

Before the school holidays, our winter season kicked off with our representative teams all performing very well during round one of the competition (for those who were able to play given a number of games were washed out due to wet weather).
This weekend, our teams will again have the opportunity to have fun playing against various opponents throughout the district from U8 to U16s.

Over the holidays, our U15/16 team traveled to Melbourne to take part in the Maca City Cup as part of its “Extra Development Program”  playing against a number of NPL teams from Victoria.
The team put up a remarkable performance by completing the tournament undefeated, claiming the Championship and Golden Boots honours in their age category. A fantastic achievement largely due to the incredible support we received from our traveling families and some impressive collective and individual performances by the players.

As part of our Extra Development Program, we will be looking at entering teams into the Kanga Cup and a number of Gala Days during the term. More information will be distributed once we have confirmation from organisers.

Saturday Individual Skills Enhancement training will recommence on Saturday April 30th at Willis Sports Centre. The early session from 3-4pm will be open to our Pre Academy & Advanced Pre Academy players while the 4.15pm session will be open to the Academy & Advanced Academy players.

Our school holidays clinics will also return in term 2 with players exposed to football and a lot of other activities. More information will be made available in the coming weeks.

With winter fast approaching, a range of winter kits are now available on the shop for the kids to keep warm during the coming cold months at training and games. Order now to avoid delays in delivery.

See you on the field!

YOUTH ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT AND NUTRITION

INTRODUCTION

Regular exercise provides many benefits to young people, including social interaction, improved physical health, and the development of self-identity and self-esteem. In addition, the second decade of life is an important time in establishing an individual’s relationship with food, and the lifelong connection between diet, exercise and body image. The pathway to elite adult performance is considered multifaceted and nonlinear (i.e., success at junior levels infrequently predicts elite adult performance). As such, athlete health remains of utmost importance during this period.
